1.1 Those who stand on tiptoes

1.2 do not stand firmly.

1.3 Those who rush ahead

1.4 don't get very far.

1.5 Those who try to outshine others

1.6 dim their own light.

1.7 Those who call themselves righteous

1.8 can't know how wrong they are.

1.9 Those who boast of their accomplishments

1.10 diminish the things they have done.

2.1 Compared to the Tao, these actions are unworthy.

2.2 If we are to follow the Tao, we must not do these things.
